Many are unaware that there is such an institution as the Meghalaya Ropeway Development Authority (MRDA) and what its mandate is. The MRDA operates under the Meghalaya Ropeway Act (MRA) 2022. The state government handed over Rs 1.5 crore to the Riat Laban Dorbar Pyllun as part of the formal lease agreement. The Dorbar Shnong does not feel the need to consult residents on projects that involve deforestation. It’s high time the Dorbar Shnong is held accountable for its actions and learns to respect the tenets of democracy.
