The Contemporary Art Museum of Raleigh (CAM Raleigh), North Carolina is selling its longtime home in the city’s Warehouse District. CAM Raleigh, which describes itself as a “non-collecting contemporary art museum,” was established in 1983 as the City Gallery of Contemporary Art. Selling frees our resources to go where they belong: into artists, exhibitions, programs, and the community that has always been the real heart of CAM.” According to tax records from 2025, the Contemporary Art Foundation’s (CAM’s overseeing body) expenses outpaced its revenue by $200,000. In a press release, Charman Driver, the board chair of CAM Raleigh, emphasized that selling the building frees up the museum to try new things.
