UPDATE 8/5: Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro has confirmed that the company is exploring a free tier for Disney+. Disney's chief product and technology officer, Adam Smith, reportedly discussed the possibility of a free tier during an internal company town hall earlier this week. Adding a fully-fledged free tier would make Disney+ fairly unique among the paid streaming giants. Though Peacock debuted with a limited, ad-supported free tier, it dropped that option in 2023. Smith didn't says why Disney is waiting until now to add free content, but we're seeing more and more consumers shift to free streaming services, amid recent price hikes from streaming giants.
