(Credit: Ookla)In Q1 2025, Wi-Fi 7 adoption accounted for only 1.8% of the US market, according to Ookla data.
In addition, the report found that median download and update rates have been increasing for US users, likely because more homes are adopting new Wi-Fi routers, including Wi-Fi 6 and 6E.
Still, Wi-Fi 7 can appeal if you're looking for a major speed upgrade, since it can theoretically deliver up to 40Gbps.
Another interesting factor at play is the US ban on foreign-made Wi-Fi routers.
“If anything, then, the FCC’s new rules might encourage the adoption of newer Wi-Fi technologies since the rules reduce the number of Wi-Fi 5 and 6 router suppliers,” Ookla added.
