Peter Latham OBE, who held key roles with the likes of the Forestry Commission and PEFC, passed away following a short illness.
A PEFC statement read: "Peter dedicated much of his life to advancing sustainable forestry and the responsible use of forest products.
"During his tenure, Peter helped guide PEFC through a period of significant growth and development.
"Throughout his career, Peter was a passionate advocate for sustainable forest management and the use of responsibly sourced wood as a renewable material."
Peter was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2012 for services to the UK wood industry.
