Councilors' View: One Duluth councilor consistently the target of heckling
[]
Duluth News Tribune
The Duluth City Council Chambers is a place where democracy is practiced at its best.
While passionate disagreement is a healthy part of democracy, interruptions toward one individual that no other council member receives crosses an important line.
When one council member is repeatedly shouted at, heckled, or laughed at while her colleagues are not, it raises uncomfortable questions.
Gracious listening goes both ways, between council members and constituents as well as between people in the audience, city staff, and councilors.
Arik Forsman, Jordon Johnson, Lynn Nephew, and Terese Tomanek are elected at-large members of the Duluth City Council.
