3, subtitled “Metaphysica,” and a harp concerto tailor-made for French harpist Emmanuel Ceysson. Harp ConcertoThe harp concerto came about at the express request of Ceysson, who’s been a fan of Hisaishi’s for many years, especially enjoying the composer’s use of the harp in his film scores. A joint commission ensued, supported by that orchestra as well as the National Opera Orchestra of Bordeaux, the Paris Philharmonic and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. “The harp is usually associated with graceful, gentle and calm music,” writes Hisaishi in the program notes for the piece. Simply listening to this stellar recording of Hisaishi’s harp concerto and his third symphony is breathtaking, providing a powerful, emotionally intense experience.
