More than 11,500 cases have been reported in Michigan during the outbreak investigation period, according to the state health department.
Michigan has reported more cyclosporiasis cases than any other state – there have been at least 11,508 cases since May 1, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
At least 98 people have been hospitalized in relation to the current outbreak, according to the CDC.
With nearly 2,000 cases linked to the current outbreak centered in the Midwest, it is the largest known cyclospora outbreak in the US to date.
The total number of cyclosporiasis cases reported this year in the US is also significantly higher than usual.
