The New Hampshire Attorney General issued a cease-and-desist order against the Amherst, New Hampshire, school district and superintendent after teachers sent political mailers home with students. The order pointed to mailers printed by school employees using school property and distributed during the school day. An investigation found that, during the 2025 municipal election, school employees printed mailers urging voters to support a local ballot question providing funds to renovate the elementary school. The school employees printed 140 copies of the mailers using two printers during the school day, then distributed them by slipping them into students’ backpacks. During the investigation, the school district claimed that the teachers likely did not believe they were doing anything wrong, because they often print out mailers advertising things like school dances.
