An automated crash message sent from a cellphone reached Chase police before it could be determined it was a false alarm triggered by a boat ride. Chase RCMP said on July 3, police received an automated crash notification from a cellphone believed to be on Shuswap Lake near Onyx Creek in the Magna Bay area. “Officers began making inquiries to determine whether anyone required assistance,” Van Wilgenburg said. She said police determined the cellphone had been inside a purse on the boat which triggered the automated crash notification.
