Federal health officials say there have been more than 3,000 cases of a drug-resistant fungal infection reported in the U.S., including in Illinois.
WATCH HERE WATCH HEREAccording to the CDC, Candida auris is a type of yeast that has been observed in the U.S. for several years.
The fungal infection typically spreads in healthcare settings, with already ill patients particularly susceptible to it.
Worse yet, the illness is typically resistant to at least one type of antifungal infection, making it hard to treat.
Patients who use breathing and feeding tubes, urinary catheters and catheters in a vein are especially vulnerable to infection, the CDC said.
