At the July 28 regular Council meeting, council heard a presentation from Wetaskiwin’s manager of Enfocement Services Matthew Nickless, after the City received a request from the Wetaskiwin Mall ownership group (Avenue Living) to appoint their security team from S13 Security as City of Wetaskiwin Bylaw Officers so they can issue municipal tickets on the Wetaskiwin Mall property at 3725 56 St. Article contentNickless said the City can appoint employees and contracted employees to become Bylaw Officers under the authority of the Municipal Government Act and other municipalities, like the City of Edmonton, have similar programs with local city groups. “This new initiative would be a two-year trial project, with Administration reporting to Council annually about the pilot program. Depending on the success or challenges of the program, Administration would recommend the continuation of the program full-time, or cessation of the pilot during the second annual report,” he said, noting if the project were successful it could be expanded to other areas like Wal-Mart and the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre if there was an interest expressed by the operators of those locations.
