(ABC 6 News) — The City of Rochester is introducing a new program to help better understand the condition of the air we breathe every day. The Rochester Air Quality Alliance published its first annual report this year, expanding its sensor network and launching a pilot program to let neighborhoods install purple-air sensors, which track air quality in real time. “More live reporting information, more relevant and accurate, and localized, you know, neighborhood specific information about air quality so that people really have that information on a daily basis and can make informed decisions about what’s best for them,” said Kayla Betzold, the sustainability coordinator for the City of Rochester. The group also evaluated sensor performance with help from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and plans to keep growing outreach and partnerships through the rest of 2026.
