On 26 June 2026, the Fiji Red Cross Society launched an answer. The Fiji Blood App—developed in partnership with technology firm Cybex and launched as part of Fiji Red Cross Society’s World Blood Donor Day celebrations—is Fiji’s first dedicated mobile platform connecting voluntary blood donors directly with the national blood service. The Fiji Blood App does not solve the tyranny of distance that affects outer island communities. Blood donation has, until now, sat outside that world. This year’s World Blood Donor Day theme—One Drop of Humanity: Give Blood, Save Lives—speaks directly to what the Fiji Blood App is trying to build: the understanding that a single donation is not a small thing.
