FARGO — Local firefighters say the little bit of rain we've had recently isn't enough to keep us out of fire danger. West Fargo Rural Fire Chief Steve Baron says Cass County is at a moderate fire risk. The New Salem Fire Department responded to a fire after the heat from a piece of farm equipment sparked a fire near Sweetbriar Creek on Saturday, Aug. 1. Baron says because newer farm equipment is made with a lot of petroleum-based products, fires can ignite faster than older machinery. He says any dragging chains or equipment could spark flames and start a fire in the ditch.
