Train cars derail near Crooks, no injuries reported

— No injuries were reported after a train derailment near Crooks.
At approximately 7 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, first responders in Minnehaha County responded to the area of 256th Street and 469th Avenue, immediately northwest of Crooks, for a report of a train derailment.
ADVERTISEMENTAccording to Minnehaha County Emergency Manager Jason Gearman, five train cars hauling corn had left the tracks.
No injuries were reported as a result of the derailment, and no damage was reported to local roads.
Burlington Northern Santa Fe is investigating the cause of the derailment, but said it's unable to provide a timeline for when any repairs to damaged train cars or railroad tracks may be completed.
