Two Calgary doctors worry global cuts to HIV programs could lead to a potential "resurgence of the HIV epidemic," which could have implications across Canada, including in Alberta.
They've formed a national consortium to come up with preventative solutions before it's too late, named the Canadian Strategic Consortium to Address the Changing Policies and Environment of Global HIV Care (CanSCAPE-HIV).
"And so that increases the urgency of them linking to care programs here in Canada because we want to prevent gaps in HIV care."

Alberta's HIV cases fell by 33 per cent between 2023 and 2025, according to Alberta's Ministry of Primary and Preventative Health Services.
