Today, Rwanda welcomed 302 Rwandan returnees from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) through La Corniche One Stop Border Post (OSBP) in Rubavu District and Rusizi I Border Post in Rusizi District. Rubavu District Mayor Mulindwa Prosper(photo) and Alfred Habimana, Vice Mayor of Rusizi District in charge of Economic Development, welcomed the returnees back to their country, encouraging them to rebuild their livelihoods, seize available opportunities, and actively contribute to Rwanda’s continued socio-economic development as they reintegrate into their communities. Since January 2026, Rwanda has received more than 3,000 returnees from the DRC. The latest cohort will be temporarily accommodated at Nyarushishi Transit Centre in Rusizi District for registration and other repatriation procedures before returning to their communities.
