A Long Island City-based martial arts school is hosting a free backpack giveaway next weekend ahead of back-to-school season. Champion Martial Arts is giving away 100 free backpacks at its Long Island City location at 49-15 Vernon Blvd. The giveaway is open to all families with school-aged children in the neighborhood, regardless of whether they are members of Champion Martial Arts. He said the martial arts center has hosted free back-to-school backpack giveaways for the last four years, adding that registration always fills up before the day of the giveaway. The initiative is fully funded by Champion LIC, with the martial arts school buying all 100 backpacks for the upcoming giveaway.
