The Anambra State Government has intensified efforts to curb unregulated development on wetlands and waterways, warning that indiscriminate construction is worsening erosion and threatening public infrastructure in parts of the state. He also expressed concern over the condition of the Nkisi Bridge, noting that erosion had washed away sections of its protective stone embankment. Aguiyi questioned how some structures within the designated wetland area obtained approval, saying the government would investigate the planning process through the Ministry of Physical Planning. Aguiyi urged developers and residents across Anambra State to comply with approved physical development plans and environmental laws, stressing that individual interests must not undermine public safety. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to preserving wetlands, protecting infrastructure and strengthening environmental enforcement to prevent avoidable disasters.
