Twenty-six transportation projects in Henrico County are set to receive a total of about $99 million as part of the the Commonwealth Transportation Board’s Six-Year Improvement Program through the Virginia Department of Transportation. The 26 slated to receive funding in Henrico are among nearly 100 total transportation projects identified as needs in the county (estimated to cost about $629 million in total). At a spring CTB hearing focused on the SYIP, Henrico County Director of Public Works Terrell Hughes said he was pleased with the projects that will be funded in Henrico. The VDOT funded projects in Henrico County are divided almost evenly between those that are pedestrian-focused and projects focusing on roads, bridges and highways. Plans for a enhancements to the Doran Road and Buffin Road areas in Varina are among the Henrico projects to receive funding as part of the Commonwealth Transportation Board's Six Year Improvement Program.
