One person is dead, and at least 11 people were injured, including three critically, in an explosion and fire at a Bronx apartment building on Wednesday afternoon. Fire Department officials said the inferno ignited at about 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 5 on the second floor of 374 East 209th St. in Norwood. This escalated to a fifth alarm throughout the time here, which brought over 300 FDNY members, firefighters, and EMS. “And when our members got up to the second floor, some of the apartment doors had been blown off the hinges as well. We had a collapse from the third floor into the second floor in one of the apartments,” he added.
