Alberta’s newly regulated online gambling market has officially gone live, marking the start of an industry that analysts expect to generate substantial revenue while also raising concerns around consumer safeguards and gambling addiction. The online gambling market in Alberta was launched on July 13 with aroound 50 operators currently registered in it although only half were opearating during launch. Zochodne pointed to this as an indicator of the gambling market’s earning potential. Now that the market is active, Shaw emphasized the importance of public awareness around the addictive nature of online gambling. “We have easy access to online gambling, it’s at our fingertips 24/7.”
