The Senator of Minnesota John Marty urged the NCPG to end its “unholy alliance” with Kalshi, with claims that this alliance weakens the mission of NCPG. Marty, who is a member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor party, mentioned that he recognized the importance of the funding the NCPG receives from the regulated gambling industry. Back in May NCPG announced a $2 million 2-year investment from Kalshi to support a “strategic initiative focused on trader safety and health.” Marty also accused the NCPG of allowing Kalshi to make “outrageous statements,” as Kalshi has stated it is widely credited with legalizing prediction markets and “building a safe, legal, regulated platform.” Already the National Problem Gambling Helpline receives claims from people that prediction markets cause harm.
