While many around the sport expected him to return eventually, Perez says he needed convincing that he still belonged at the highest level. Looking back, Perez says the comeback has answered the questions he had been asking himself. “Coming back to Formula 1, I had some doubts about coming back, but I'm really happy I came back because I managed to prove to myself that I'm still one of the best. Cadillac is not yet a front-running team, but Perez believes his performances should be judged relative to the machinery at his disposal rather than by headline results alone. The time that I stop, I'm really looking forward to it as well because when you are in Formula 1, you have to be 100% on it.”
