In a recent statement, Zhang Yiming, the founder of ByteDance, addressed the company’s stance on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in their future technological pursuits.
He emphasized that ByteDance is not heavily reliant on AI distillation techniques to drive its innovation and growth.
Zhang clarified that while AI remains a critical component of ByteDance’s operations—enabling everything from content recommendation to user engagement—the company is cautious about over-depending on a single technological approach.
Despite this, Zhang highlighted that ByteDance prefers a balanced approach—leveraging AI where appropriate but not making it the cornerstone of their technological development.
As ByteDance continues to expand its portfolio, including popular platforms like TikTok, it appears the company is taking a pragmatic approach—incorporating AI capabilities thoughtfully rather than relying solely on specific techniques like distillation.
