See full statement from the Guyana Police Force:Police are investigating the discovery of a firearm and magazines, which were found on Wednesday August 5, 2026 about 02:30hrs at ‘C’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown. Enquiries revealed that ranks, acting on information received, proceeded to an empty plot of land in the area, where a search was conducted. During the search, ranks discovered one AK assault rifle with its serial number filed off, along with two AK magazines, inside a bag which was found in a dry drain. The firearm and magazines were taken into Police custody and escorted to the Turkeyen Police Station, where they were lodged pending investigation. No arrest has been made.
