Mitch Farrow, 69, from Earlestown will celebrate the 41st anniversary of his kidney transplant this Hallowe'en, placing him among a rare group of transplant recipients whose donated organs have continued functioning for so long. Before receiving a transplant, Mitch spent five years on dialysis. Doctors told him a transplanted kidney from a live donor would last a lot longer than one from a dead donor. The donor kidney has survived despite Mitch later facing prostate cancer, diabetes and a heart attack. Despite years of trying, Mitch has never been able to trace the boy's relatives.
