NBC Sports, which holds the rights to broadcast the Kentucky Derby, will also retain the rights to broadcast the Preakness Stakes, according to a report on Front Office Sports. The site says that the result came after a “hard-fought bidding war,” which included bids from FOX, Amazon, and Netflix, quoting unnamed sources. NBC has broadcast the Preakness since 2001, taking over for ABC Sports. An announcement in response to the NYRA-Churchill series for three-year-olds is also expected at that time. On Monday, Churchill Downs and NYRA announced a new six-race series for three-year-olds offering bonus money that includes the Derby and Belmont Stakes, but not the Preakness.
