MANILA Electric Co. (Meralco) is upgrading its older metering system as part of efforts to reduce system losses and improve monitoring of electricity delivered across its distribution network. In a statement on Wednesday, the power distributor said it continues to roll out its Elevated Metering Transformation (EMX) system, an upgraded version of its earlier Elevated Metering Center (EMC) program, which places electricity meters on poles and other elevated structures. Meralco said the upgraded system forms part of its broader investments in grid modernization and is designed to improve the reliability and efficiency of electricity distribution. System loss refers to the difference between the electricity delivered into a distribution network and the electricity ultimately supplied to end users. Meralco said its system loss rate is 5%, below the cap set by the Energy Regulatory Commission.
