A wildfire near Sizewell B has stoked concerns around climate-related planning for nuclear power stations. Local campaign group Together Against Sizewell C (TASC) raised concerns that climate resilience is not sufficiently factored into planning for nuclear power stations. “In the case of emergencies, such as wildfires, affecting the Sizewell nuclear cluster, the authorities need to ensure that the Emergency Plan can cope with an influx of 8,500 workers on the Sizewell C construction site, a thousand extra contractors at Sizewell B during outages, as well as tourists and residents.” “They will bear the financial and environmental burden of safeguarding the Sizewell C site—and its 3,900 tonnes of onsite radioactive waste—until its decommissioning in 2160.” “Consequently, beach replenishment may be required before the Sizewell C build is complete.
