Amazon has been eyeing the proposed Homer City natural gas-fueled power plant in Indiana County as a possible location for a data center campus, the company said. Amazon’s acknowledgement of its consideration of the Homer City site is revealed in emails that TribLive obtained from the state government through Right to Know requests. While Amazon has expressed an interest in building a data center campus at the Homer City power plant, “DEP has not received any applications as of yet for any data centers relating to Homer City,” said Thomas Decker, a DEP spokesman at the department’s Meadville office. The department also has not had any preapplication meetings with Amazon or any other potential data center tenants, Decker said. The data center development is expected to require billions of more dollars, Homer City Generation said.
