Lunar helium-3 eyed as fuel for 50-MWe next-gen US fusion plant planned for 2031

Interesting Engineering
Fusion energy company TAE Technologies has signed an agreement with privately funded natural-resource and lunar-development firm Black Moon Energy Corporation (BMEC) to secure a potential helium-3 fuel supply as it advances toward its first commercial fusion power plant.
A new fuel option Helium-3 is a light isotope of helium that TAE sees as one possible fuel for its fusion technology.
TAE has spent nearly three decades developing its fusion technology and has built five fusion machines.
The next major step is Da Vinci, TAE’s planned first fusion power plant.
That distinction is important because commercial fusion will require more than a working reactor.
