Q COSTA RICA — Agents from the San José National Central Bureau of INTERPOL, part of the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ), arrested a U.S. citizen on Tuesday, wanted by U.S. authorities for his alleged involvement in financial crimes related to fraud and money laundering.
According to the OIJ, the man had an active international arrest warrant and was wanted by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which had requested international cooperation for his location and arrest.
After confirming his location, INTERPOL agents in San José proceeded with the arrest of the American, who was taken into custody by national authorities to begin the corresponding legal proceedings.
Judicial authorities explained that international arrest warrants allow for coordinated efforts between different countries to prevent individuals under investigation or wanted for serious crimes from evading justice by moving to other territories.
In this case, the investigation determined that Dunning was in Costa Rica, so specialized INTERPOL agents carried out the operation to arrest him.
