Officials in suburban Waukegan Township are asking residents to be wary of opening specific emails after their systems were “compromised.” In a notice sent out Wednesday afternoon, township officials said that their email systems have been “compromised,” and that some residents may receive emails purporting to be from the township that residents should not open. WATCH HERE WATCH HEREAccording to the alert, emails with the subject like “NEW DOCUMENT NOTIFICATION” should be immediately deleted, and residents who receive the emails should not click on any links contained within. Officials say they are working to restore regular access to their email systems, and are asking residents to be patient amid that process. If a resident receives an email from the township and is unsure whether to open it, they are asked to call 847-244-4900 to verify the contents of the email before taking further action.
