The Wight Squirrel Project Volunteer Trophy has been awarded to Bob and Jacquie Wilson, who have spent many years supporting the conservation of the Island’s native reds. Helen Butle, founder and manager of the Wight Squirrel Project, said: "They are absolute stalwarts when it comes to looking after our precious red squirrels and have been doing so for a very long time. The Wight Squirrel Project is appealing for more volunteers to help care for sick, injured or orphan red squirrels. Even transporting animals to a vet can make a difference, with the Wight Squirrel Project adding they will cover any vet bills incurred for red squirrels on the Island. Ms Butler also highlighted the national importance of the Isle of Wight for red squirrels and encouraged the public to report sightings to support ongoing monitoring.
