Police and paramedics were called to the B6532 at Congburn Bank in Edmondsley at around 1.30am (August 5) after a pedestrian was hit by a Volkswagen Polo. The man, aged in his 40s, was left with serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for treatment. Durham Police has now confirmed that a man in his 50s and woman in her 40s have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. The road was shut between the Edmondsley Lane crossroads and Congburn Bank in both directions following the incident. Anybody who witnessed the crash or has any information or footage relating to it is asked to contact police via 101, quoting incident number 22 of August 5.
