The Grade II-listed Quayside Exchange in Sunderland could soon be revived as a large 'aparthotel', under plans lodged with the city council.
Quayside Exchange Land & Estates Ltd has applied for permission to convert the current restaurant and function venue into an aparthotel.
The plans propose 24 rooms within the main building and an additional five rooms in the modern western annexe.
While the statement acknowledges "some limited potential" for impact upon the historic fabric of the listed building, it notes the “external appearance would remain largely unaltered.”
Decisions on the application and the required listed building consent are expected following public consultation.
