Srinagar, Aug 5: Opposition parties in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday observed the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 as a "Black Day", renewing their demand for the restoration of statehood, constitutional safeguards and democratic rights while accusing the Centre of eroding the region's political and constitutional status. He said the NC-led government had reaffirmed its stand by passing a resolution in the Legislative Assembly seeking restoration of the region's constitutional position and statehood. The Apni Party adopted resolutions across district headquarters demanding the restoration of statehood and constitutional rights. He claimed Jammu and Kashmir continued to face high unemployment and a development deficit despite promises made after the constitutional changes. Led by General Secretary Mohammad Khurshid Alam, party leaders described August 5 as one of the darkest chapters in Jammu and Kashmir's history and demanded the restoration of constitutional guarantees and democratic rights.
