Ganderbal, Aug 5: Sub District Hospital Kangan on Wednesday organised a World Breastfeeding Week awareness programme, with doctors urging mothers to start breastfeeding within the first hour of birth and continue exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months.
Dr. Anjum said breast milk is naturally available, hygienic, nutritionally balanced and requires no preparation, making it the safest source of nourishment for infants irrespective of economic status.
Highlighting the challenges faced by first-time mothers, Dr. Anjum said many women require practical guidance rather than replacement feeds.
She urged mothers to rely on breastfeeding as the primary source of nutrition for their babies during the first six months of life.
During the programme, newly delivered mothers participated in interactive counselling sessions and practical demonstrations on breastfeeding techniques.
