Energy Intelligence's levelized cost of energy (LCOE) calculations are based on a financial model that determines a break-even price for electricity delivered to the high-voltage grid. The data covers eight forms of renewable energy, three forms of unabated fossil fuel energy, two forms of fossil fuel energy with carbon capture and storage, nuclear power, and two types of hybrid renewable-plus-storage plants. It is mostly based on expert reports. Sources include the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena), the US Energy Information Administration, nonprofits such as Germany's Fraunhofer Institute and consultancies such as Norway's DNV.
