Russian Fuel Crisis Spurs Surge in Hybrid Cars
[]
RSS Feed
Russia's ongoing fuel crisis stemming from wide-scale Ukrainian attacks on the country's refining sector has prompted a surge of interest in electric vehicles (EVs), with sales volumes doubling from a year ago.
Battery EVs (BEVs) remain just 1% of total passenger car sales, but plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) hit 8% of sales in July.
General consumer skepticism in the world's geographically largest country remains, however.
Opinions differ as to whether the trend will be sustained if and when Russia's domestic fuel market stabilizes and state subsidies for EVs are reduced or scrapped.
