In a quiet neighbourhood in Wapakoneta, Ohio, stands the home where a young Neil Armstrong spent some of his most formative years. Although Wapakoneta proudly celebrates its most famous resident through the Armstrong Air & Space Museum, the Benton Street house has remained a private home. Mikesell remembers Aldrin walking into Armstrong's old bedroom and becoming visibly emotional, a moment she says has stayed with her ever since. Several astronauts also left behind signed photographs with personal messages thanking her for preserving Armstrong's childhood home. Whether it remains a family home or evolves into a place where visitors can spend a night surrounded by history, Mikesell believes its story deserves to continue.
