Fourteen members of 124 (Hereford) Squadron RAFAC travelled to Ypres, Belgium, in July to visit key First World War sites as part of a special commemorative tour. Their itinerary included Tyne Cot Cemetery, with more than 35,000 headstones, and Essex Farm Cemetery, where Lt Col John McCrae composed 'In Flanders Field'. One cadet said: "So many cemeteries and so many headstones, it really brings home the horror." The tour concluded with the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate, a nightly act of remembrance since 1921. The Menin Gate bears the names of 55,000 missing soldiers with no known grave.
