Supporters have been warned their personal data may have been compromised after the cyber attack on a software provider used to manage donor information. In a letter sent to those possibly affected, the cathedral said Beacon, its donor management software supplier, became aware of a cyber security incident on July 29 and informed the cathedral of the breach on August 3. In the letter, cathedral officials said: "We do not know for sure if or how your data has been affected. The cathedral said Beacon had engaged external cyber security specialists to investigate the incident and secure its systems. The Very Reverend Sarah Brown, Dean of Hereford and chair of Hereford Cathedral Chapter, and Philip Dunne, chairman of the Hereford Cathedral Perpetual Trust, apologised to supporters for the incident.
