Five years after collecting 5,580 books for a Boy Scout reading merit badge, 17-year-old Eagle Scout candidate Carter Lang came full circle Tuesday by unveiling a Little Free Library stocked with books donated by the very nonprofit he once helped. The new library, built for the Town of Brookhaven’s Centereach Pool at Hawkins and Hammond roads, serves as Carter’s Eagle Scout project with Troop 74. Carter Lang collected 5,580 books in 2021 and donated them to Book Fairies in Hicksville. “I’m super excited to work with my town, work with my dad and work with my troop on this project,” he said.
