Livermore vineyard begins grape harvest earlier than usual

Harvest season is getting an early start at an East Bay vineyard.
Las Positas Vineyards in Livermore began harvesting its Verdelho grapes Wednesday, becoming the first vineyard in the area to start picking grapes this year.

They described it as an unusual growing season, with an early bud break, mild weather and no major heat waves.
Las Positas Vineyards' Verdelho has previously been named the Best White Wine in the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.
