Australia's highest court on Wednesday dismissed an appeal from a man convicted of raping his wife while she slept on two occasions. He had argued a recording of him admitting to the first rape was obtained illegally. "The interest of a person in not being raped is an interest deserving of the very strongest protection." The woman gave evidence that she made the recording to "convince myself never to go back to him no matter what happened". "Much of the most damaging domestic and family violence is non-physical, such as coercive control, and this form of abuse impacts autonomy," Prof Douglas said.
