FERMANAGH and Omagh has recorded the second-highest rate of drink and drug driving offences in the North, according to the latest figures from the PSNI, despite years of road safety campaigns and tougher penalties. The latest police statistics show there were 22 drink or drug driving detections for every 10,000 people aged over 16 in the district during 2025. Belfast Road, Maguiresbridge, recorded the highest number of speeding detections in 2025, with 131 motorists caught. Cllr Gannon said road deaths were influenced by a range of factors, including road conditions and the ‘Fatal Five’ causes of serious collisions, such as speeding, distraction and drink or drug driving. “If you know someone is driving, support them to make the right choices.
