Rival Eli Lilly jumped 4.9 per cent after raising its full-year revenue forecast and the S&P 500 healthcare closed up 1.3 per cent, one of the best-performing sectors on the session.
Also helping to boost the Dow was a 3.6 per cent rise in Disney shares after beating third-quarter profit expectations.
The S&P 500 posted 34 new 52-week highs and three new lows while the Nasdaq Composite recorded 107 new highs and 75 new lows.
